2022 Season Review & Presentation Night
Presentation Night on Monday 14 November bought a close to the inaugural year of the Burraneer Women’s Rugby Club, with a tour to Dubai the remaining commitment to what’s been a bumper 2022.
Proudly, since becoming a recognised club on 23 Feb 2022, we can state the following achievements:
Offered free player registration, including all training and playing kit free for players
Offered a medical program with physio strapping and medical treatment across the season
Established a Board focused solely on driving the growth and development of women’s rugby
Appointed a new Head Manager, Sam Talataina and new coaching staff including Shute Shield First Grade player Sam Tabuatamata
Designed the first indigenous primary strip in Australian rugby (both home and away), designed by NSW Waratah Dylan Pietsch of Wulwaay Designs
Winners of the Sydney Women’s 7’s Division 1 & 2
Won the 2022 Kiama 7’s
Won the 2022 Sawtell 7’s (Coffs Harbour)
Started club’s first ever 10’s program and won the Sydney Women’s 10’s Premiership.
Selected to tour Samoa in partnership with Rugby Australia and Pacific Aus Sports to attend Samoan National 7s Competition
Won the Samoa International 7’s with our development side. Re-donated the $3,000 prize money to the local U18’s girls teams in Samoa.
Donated over 250 items of clothing in Samoa
Led by coach, Angus McGrath, ran an 8 week community rugby program for local young girls in the area free of charge.
5 Players selected for the Waratahs Super W Train On Squad
Caitlyn Halse and Ella Koster selected for Australian Schoolgirls rugby 7s merit team
Bridget Clark signed full-time to Australian Women’s 7s program
Alice Gregory selected for Australia A women’s 7s for Dubai 2022
Niraaya Jayasinghe and Bronti Westaway selected to play in AON series
Eight (8) girls selected in NSW U18’s 15’s team
Youngest Super W player in history in Ella Koster, NSW Waratahs 2022 season
First club in history to have 4 opens teams at a 7’s event in NSW male or female
Confirmed 7 leading commercial partners for the club and it’s programs supporting the girls on and off the field
Entered into the Dubai 7’s, departing 29 November 2022
Invested in five (5) coaches put through their Level 2 Coaching Course
61 players have worn the Burra Rays jersey in 2022
Burraneer Rays have extended their pathway opportunities by providing two Rays girls the opportunity to join the Brumbies Wider Squad each year in partnership with the ACT Brumbies
Our club has been operational for a 9-month period.
Whilst reflecting back on the year at presentation night, it was evident this was a high calibre group of young women who uphold high standards of themselves both on and off the field. BWRC would like to take this time to thank all players, families, partners, coaches, managers, volunteers and board members for their immeasurable and valued contribution to this season.
As BWRC President Maddi Anderson’s address confirmed, BWRC are proud to be creating a leading and supportive environment and pathway for young women in the area to enjoy their rugby and look forward to continuing to break new ground for the sport and our players into the future.

BWRC are close to confirming an additional 2x international 7s tour opportunities for 2023, with more 10s and 15s rugby available to players than ever before. BWRC are committed to providing free registration and kit to all participating players and coaches and will continue to provide a leading rugby option for women and girls in the Southern Sydney region.
